When B @ BBeingCool through down the gauntlet to join in a linky focused on health and fitness, my initial thought was “Yeah, right!”.

But I’m quite fond of B, so I thought I’d humour her and knock up something about how UNhealthy & UNfitnessy I am.

This is the season to devour chocolate, after all! I have a fridge full of the stuff and my eating regime has been in holiday mode since the great Escape.

My skin is bad, I don’t exercise, I eat too much crap and my clothes are tight. None of this makes me happy but for some reason I’m still not at the point where I can seem to push myself into making a change. To get technical about it, psychologists would say that I am in the “contemplation stage” when it comes to readiness to change. I’d like things to be different but translating that into action is all together different.

Then something happened.

It was purely by accident actually. I was making a cup of coffee at work and I was so busy checking out Instagram on my iPhone that I forgot to put sugar in my coffee, not realising until getting back to my desk and took a sip.

In all my coffee drinking years I’ve been a two sugar girl. Not negotiable! I had even scoffed at those who where ditching sugar all together in their efforts to be healthier. To me it was an inconceivable sacrifice. Needless to say, I was very surprised that the difference, although noticeable, was not completely unpalatable. I thought about B and her linky proposition and figured, hey, what the heck, why not try just ONE sugar as my token effort. So I did and totally lived to tell the tale!

Now I can proudly say that for 3 whole days now I have only had one sugar in my coffee instead of two. That might not sound like a big deal, but if you consider I drink at least 3 cups of coffee per day, translating to 3 less teaspoons of sugar a day or 21 teaspoons of sugar a week which works out to be 1092 TEASPOONS OF SUGAR YEAR!!

That’s 16380 calories less a year that I will be consuming. A little change that will make a big difference over time.

At the very least it’s gotta make up for some of the easter-related collateral damage!!

So B, I’d like to say thanks for motivating me to make a very simple but sustainable change. Who knows what might happen next week?!

Have you made any changes in relation to your health lately, big or small?? Do you have trouble getting motivated like me?

  1. Good for you Nee! I’m the complete opposite. If someone accidently puts a sugar in my coffee, I can totally taste the difference. I’ve only ever drank coffee without sugar (but I’ve made up for the 16,380 calories I’m missing out on per year in other areas of my diet, don’t worry about that!)

  2. You scoffed at me! The horror. :P Small changes make huge differences. Too bad I’m a grand gestures girl. Way too all or nothing for my liking!

    A great post!

I didn’t scoff at you personally, Sug! Just at your hair-brained idea to give up the glorious white crystals! I’m no good with all or nothing, half-arsed is much more my style ;)

Oh thank you Nee! I am touched that you are my first ever linker into my linky-doo-thingy! Really touched!

So glad you lived to tell the tale of less sugar and you are sooooo right, one change can make a BIG difference.

I am a coffee and ‘lekkers’ {Dutch word for yummy} kind of girl, I must have a biscuit, cake, some nuts or something on the side – but this week I have told myself that my lovely frothy coffee is actually enough for morning tea. And… well… it is! If I am hungry after that, it is off to the fruit bowl for me!

Thanks again, I am kind of fond of you too *blush*.
